If you look at today’s headlines, you’d think 2025 is one of the worst times in history to buy a home. In fact, according to national sentiment surveys, only 16% of people believe now is a good time to purchase — the second-lowest confidence level since the 1960s.

But here’s the truth: public perception and real estate reality are not the same thing.

Historically, real estate has proven to be one of the strongest long-term wealth-building tools available. When you choose to own instead of rent, two big things happen:

1. You gain ownership of a real asset.
Renting builds someone else’s wealth. Buying puts you in control of an appreciating asset.

2. You build equity in two ways.
• Every monthly payment reduces your principal.
• And over 10–20 years, home values have historically increased 4–7% annually on average.

That means the long-term homeowner almost always wins.

And here in Central Texas, the timing may actually be better than people realize. Inventory is up, seller concessions are common, builders are offering major incentives, and buyers finally have negotiating power again. This is the closest thing we’ve had to a true buyer’s market in years.
